1. Tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Talia Lopez. I am a dementia specialist gone online business coach. I am a self-made muti-passionate entrepreneur. I created my first business (Dementia Care Advocates: an online caregiving school) at 19 and wanted to help women create the life and business of their dreams, so I became an online business coach at 20. I am an online course guru, marketing expert, and auto-immune disease(s) warrior!
2. What was your first job and how did you get it?
Fortunately, I have always had a job. From 8yrs-12yrs old, I used to help my dad find cars on Craigslist to fix and sell for $20 a pop. I thought I was rich! I worked at Dunkin' Donuts all through high school and part of college. In college, I had two jobs. I was studying to become a dementia specialist, so I became a dementia live-in caregiver all through college. Ms Bonnie was my 1st private client. She was an 80yr old amazing women with dementia. She lived alone and her family truly neglected her. She was amazing and filled my empty heart. At the time, I did not have friends or a good relationship with my parents. I was alone and she was too. Working with her validated my dreams. I felt so fulfilled being able to make the world a better place one senior at a time. But I wanted more. I wanted to change the world of gerontology.
3. How did you decide and get to your career today?
All through high school, I volunteered at nursing homes and interned, in college, at an adult daycare. I fell in love with helping those with dementia. But the way they are being cared for was not effective. Caregivers were not educated on how to manage behaviors so I studied it and created a beautiful online business. I created courses around what dementia is and how to help those with dementia manage behaviors to make caregiving easier on the caregiver and better for those with dementia. Once, it was successful, I started business #2 to help women do exactly what I did. Create a massive impact and the life of their dreams. Sounds like gumdrops and rainbows right? It wasn't. Here is the real story. I graduated so excited and determined to become the CEO of the Alzheimer's Association or something. Then I got sick. I have always been sickly: my stomach pain was always on and off but now it was very intense and flare up we’re occurring daily. I couldn't get out of bed or the bathroom. If you don't know about IBS and Chrons, please know, it is like living the worst day of your life over and over again. Each flare-up makes you want to give it all up. I drained my saving to pay for awful doctors and no answers. I was broke, out of a job, and clueless. Then one day, it clicked. I had this brilliant idea to take what I know and create online courses. I couldn't believe that I was able to impact so many, create my dream life, double my 9 to 5 income, and heal myself! YAY remission. I didn't give up. I worked between flare up and I made it. So now, I help women build their dream business.
4. What advice would you have given your younger self? Or what is the best career advice you have ever received?
"Don't ever settle. Great things are coming for you" It's true, whether you are in a career you hate or a marriage that sucks, do not settle, because you are destined for greatness. I am happy with an amazing man, in a beautiful home, living my dream life, and creating change.
5. In 5 years, where do you hope to be professionally and personally?
I will be married and own a home. I will hit six figures consistently in my business. I will be doing the same impactful and inspiring work. I will not let anything stop me.
Stay connected with Talia!
