1. Tell us a bit about yourself
I'm a career coach and marketing professional looking to help women in the transition to their dream careers. I launched Career Berry in 2019 and recently launched The Career Corner, a monthly newsletter created for the purpose of engaging an online community of women in an interactive collaboration around the topic of women in the workplace!
2. What was your first job and how did you get it?
My first "real" job out of college was working for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in downtown Manhattan. I was having difficulty finding a job post-recession and Enterprise offered a fantastic training program. I applied on their website and within two weeks, had an offer and moved to NYC!
3. How did you decide and get to your career today?
The turning point for me becoming a career coach was when I worked in marketing for a hospital system, reporting to a boss who consistently micromanaged and belittled me. I didn't have a female mentor to reach out to and I didn't want anyone to ever feel alone like I did at that time, so I got my coaching certification from the accredited Health Coach Institute and vowed to always be available as a resource for working women!
4. What advice would you have given your younger self? Or what is the best career advice you have ever received?
One of my mentors told me to never lose my enthusiasm and bubbly personality. My aforementioned boss had a talk with me about her negative perception of my personality and following that meeting, I was crushed. It was empowering to hear that my personality was an asset, not something to be ashamed of.
5. In 5 years, where do you hope to be professionally and personally?
This is what really motivates me - big picture questions! I hope to be working on, or have published a book on career goal setting, to have grown my Career Berry coaching businesses to brick-and-mortar (located somewhere near a beach!), and to be a keynote speaker at women-empowered conferences around the U.S.
