1. Tell us a bit about yourself
I am a Career Coach, certified HR professional and 3-time best-selling author. I help people (mostly women and students) land jobs, excel at work and monetize their knowledge skills and abilities.
2. What was your first job and how did you get it?
My first paid, a full-time position was in a daycare center as a teaching assistant. I was promoted to the lead teacher position once someone retired. I have always enjoyed teaching. I certainly infuse teaching in my coaching business today. But the students are a lot older now:) Anyway, I thought it would be a natural fit for me so I gave it a try. I had a part-time summer teaching job when I was 16 so leveraged that experience to land that job.
3. How did you decide and get to your career today?
Being a career coach unfolded for me by accident. I had been helping friends, family, and referrals for many years. I had my first "mentee" and helped a friend expand her business over 20 years ago. Most of the time I was helping for free or for a meal once they received the job or started the business and had a customer. After writing "The Best Job Interview Advice Book", embracing social media and being more visible on Linkedin things really changed for me.
4. What advice would you have given your younger self? Or what is the best career advice you have ever received?
I would tell my younger seek professional mentorship early! You do not have to do everything alone and through trial and error.
5. In 5 years, where do you hope to be professionally and personally?
Personally, I would like to have more time to take care of me. I have started to incorporate a few things now but I still get off track with all of the professional demands. Professionally, I want a thriving coaching practice that includes adding additional coaches that will serve clients worldwide.
