1. Tell us a bit about yourself
I'm Orla Dempsey and I'm a Primary School Teacher and Career Coach. I specialise in coaching in the area of Education - particularly mentoring teachers to create powerful Cvs that secure them job interviews. I also teach education professionals techniques so that they come across clearly and confidently in interviews.
2. What was your first job and how did you get it?
My first job was babysitting for a local family. The girls were great and the family were very good to me. Something which I now value very highly.
3. How did you decide and get to your career today?
After my travels to the US and South America in 2014 (after teaching for 7 years) I decided to try our different career options. I love working with small details and so CVs were of great interest to me. I became a Life and Career Coach 3 years ago now and I love helping others to secure jobs with confidence and ease.
4. What advice would you have given your younger self? Or what is the best career advice you have ever received?
Change is uncomfortable but leaning into it allows you to grow. Figure out how to lean into things.
5. In 5 years, where do you hope to be professionally and personally?
I aim to be working with Teacher Training Colleges to support student teachers to become more self-aware, to know their worth and create job applications that make their job-seeking journey an easier one than it is at present. It's so important to build people up and not knock them down. Being knocked down, that's what's happening for many who are job hunting at the moment.
