1. Tell us a bit about yourself
Hi there! I'm a Career Consultant here to help inspire ambitious professionals to become career-ready. As a former human resources professional, I viewed thousands of resumes and interviewed and hired over 300+ employees. I've taken my (somewhat nerdy) love for all things HR and transformed it into my true passion for helping people become career-ready and find and thrive in careers they love. When I'm not helping people with all things career, I'm busy with my new baby boy - we love to sing songs and dance all day.
2. What was your first job and how did you get it?
So, this was a tough one for me! I graduated from Marist College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree dual degree in Psychology & Special Education. I was not 100% convinced that was the career path for me, but I always knew I wanted to ‘teach’ and serve as a mentor in my professional career. Upon graduation, I started to see all of my friends get their first job and began to panic because it wasn’t working out for me that way. After working through some adversity and understandable frustration, I started to network with anyone who would listen to me. Someone finally agreed to mentor me – yay! This landed me my first job as a ‘head hunter’ with a Fortune 500 Company in Midtown, Manhattan. Ironically I was helping people just like me find their first job. I know the frustration; I lived it, and then I helped others work through it.
3. How did you decide and get to your career today?
Once I started working in recruiting, I knew I found my true passion. I've taken everything I've learned during my human resources path and am sharing it with my clients to make sure they find success in their paths. Aside from a coach, I like to think of myself as their personal cheerleaders :)
4. What advice would you have given your younger self? Or what is the best career advice you have ever received?
Seriously, don't be afraid! If you are aiming for a career change, put a plan together and GO FOR IT. Your older self will thank you. Heck, I went from volunteering in a pre-school to working on Park Avenue in NYC with professionals who were suited up every day. It was a scary change, but I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't go ahead and do it. Of course, I always recommend a strategy, but map out your goals and make them happen.
5. In 5 years, where do you hope to be professionally and personally?
In 5 years I hope to be a renowned career consultant with more successful clients than I can count, living out their professional dreams. I would love to travel the country and educate people on how to achieve their success. Hey, you gotta manifest it!
