Spotlight Series: Meet Career & Empowerment Strategist of RBG Royalty Michelle Matthews

1. Tell us a bit about yourself

My name is Michelle "MiMi' Matthews and I am the Career and Empowerment Strategist of RBG Royalty. I love helping people figure out the best strategy to adopt in their pursuit of success. I also enjoy long, purposeful conversations that inspire me to become better. Considering both of these things I figured out a way to create a lane for myself as a professional. I assist entry to mid-level professionals create value around their brands that in turn builds their confidence so that they can win in the job market.

2. What was your first job and how did you get it?

My first job was at the age of 16, I was a cashier at McDonalds. My best friend and I attended a hiring event for a new location and to our surprise, we both got hired. We both quit together after just three months; fast food was not the industry for us.

3. How did you decide and get to your career today?

Interestingly enough, I am an accountant by trade. I chose the field based on my love for numbers and a presentation from a high school Career Day speaker who was employed by the FBI to do forensic accounting. Her job sounded so cool to 17-year-old Michelle. Little did I know the actual field isn't as exciting as she described. In the midst of all of this, I'd always been an avid reader and sharer of great knowledge so naturally so my interests made way for my passion in the form of career coaching.

4. What advice would you have given your younger self? Or what is the best career advice you have ever received?

I would tell young MiMi that you don't have to figure everything out at once and it's okay to deviate from the plan.

5. In 5 years, where do you hope to be professionally and personally?

As a professional in 5 years, I see myself hosting career workshops in colleges all over the United States, facilitating meet-ups for women who value transparency and growth, and to have helped over 2,500 people with career advancement. Personally, I see my podcast being the basis of many connections all over the world allowing me to write best-selling books based on my experiences, playing a part in the healing of numerous women, and being the best mother I can be.

Stay connected with Michelle!
