1. Tell us a bit about yourself
Hello There! My name is Harleny Vasquez. I am a Latina who was born and raised in Manhattan, New York known as “Inwood. I have my Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Hunter College and my Masters Degree in Social Work from Fordham University. I have worked in the field of social services for over 6 years helping families thrive within this broken system. My true passion lies within my role as a Career Mindset Coach helping Social Workers obtain leadership roles. I know first-hand how doubting your own abilities to succeed can inhibit your opportunities for success. I have made it my mission to empower social workers to achieve their highest potential while providing them with the tools and positive mindset that they need to be able to succeed within their role as a social worker. I want to make sure they fall in love with the profession all over again. I am an uplifting and empowering person, here to spread awareness and positivity within this community of millennial individuals.
2. What was your first job and how did you get it?
My first job out of college was as a female resident advisor working with homeless at-risk youth. This is where I fell in love with the profession of Social Work, being able to advocate for youth while providing them with the services that they needed to be able to find permanent housing. At a young age since High school, I was an individual who made sure I was going to find the resources that I needed to be able to advance and grow within. At 16 years old I made it my mission to obtain my first internship, which my dedication landed me an internship at NYU Langone. I was always someone who was the helping hand to others, in assuring that others around me achieve their highest potential and advance within their career. Since then I have been empowering and supporting others to achieve their very best throughout my entire life.
3. How did you decide and get to your career today?
Throughout my years of being a Social Worker, I came to a realization that I am my best self when helping others achieve their highest potential. I am known to be everyone’s cheerleader when it comes to helping them advance in their career. My Co-workers would always ask for advice regarding reviewing their resume, preparation for interviews and assistance on how to find employment. It led me to wanting to create a platform to help other social workers achieve their highest potential. I wanted to inspire and empower others to believe in their own abilities, as I wanted to not only focus on the career aspect but also on the importance of how the mind works in regards to your own success. Through my exposure of creating a platform, brought me onto the world of coaching which sparked my passion of starting a side hustle in September 2019 as a career mindset coach and in a matter of 3 months, I hired two coaches to help me thrive within the start of my business and provide me with the tools that I needed to provide my clients with the transformation that they need.
4. What advice would you have given your younger self? Or what is the best career advice you have ever received?
Believe in yourself like the world depends on it because you will be surprised at the opportunities that will come because of that. Remember that you have all the power within yourself to make all the changes you want to see and make your dreams a reality.
5. In 5 years, where do you hope to be professionally and personally?
In 5 years I hope to have a thriving coaching business where I have impacted many social workers to achieve their highest potential. I hope to have spoken at many networking events where I continue to speak about my mission of empowering and uplifting as many individuals as I can. I will also continue to live a happy positive life spreading my message everywhere I go.
