1. Tell us a bit about yourself
I am a natural connector and communicator, who loves building relationships and helping professionals achieve their life goals by developing a career path that allows them to live the life they want. I’m hopelessly entrepreneurial and have to remind myself often that I don’t need to start one more business.
My career consulting experience of over 13 years spans many industries and diverse career levels, from entry-level to C-level executives. One of the best parts of my job is finding the best way to help each unique client achieve success and discover a career they may not have thought was possible.
When I’m not working, you’ll find me exploring neighborhoods, coffee shops and restaurants throughout Chicago with my husband, baking something sweet, on a road trip to visit my 11 nieces and nephews, or traveling somewhere sunny.
2. What was your first job and how did you get it?
My first official job was at a hardware store when I was in high school, helping customers. My career started as a Job Coach 17 years ago, training students with developmental disabilities in their summer work experiences, which led to my first Career Coaching position. I got that job through a referral, which has been true of every job I’ve had, except one.
3. How did you decide and get to your career today?
I fell into the career development field through a referral and found myself working for an amazing company, where I learned how to assess the needs of employers and guide clients through career transitions. The more I grew as a career coach, the more it became part of who I was. I absolutely love helping people uncover their value, define their priorities, and connect with work that inspires them! The more people I worked with over the years, the more I realized that everyone, regardless of their education or career level, needs support and guidance throughout a career pivot. So many talented people feel stuck in their current position or career trajectory and don’t know what steps they can take to change the direction of their career path. My mission is to provide support and practical advice to empower as many people as possible to create a career that aligns with their life goals, and that is the reason I founded Love Your Niche Consulting.
4. What advice would you have given your younger self? Or what is the best career advice you have ever received?
My advice would be to be confident in the amazing gifts and abilities you have to contribute and to dream about all the possibilities of what your career could be! For much of my career, I didn’t really think I had a career. I was doing work that I loved, but I didn’t look at the big picture and develop a plan for where I wanted to end up. Because I wasn’t thinking strategically, it took me longer to get to where I’m at today.
5. In 5 years, where do you hope to be professionally and personally?
I want to be helping even more women take the steps to move into a career that aligns with what they want in life! My goal is to expand my public speaking, corporate training, and workshops so that I can impact more people, as well as consulting for more companies who want to provide career path planning for their employees.
Personally, I hope to continue growing in my understanding of how to take steps that bring transformation and to spend more time on the beach with my husband.
